The Circular Economy in Action.

If plastic isn’t going to break down and biodegrade, then shouldn’t we find ways to use it again? (and again, and again…)

We think so.

So we set out to put plastic waste to good use, here’s how we do it:

When Trash Becomes Treasure.

Collect

Recycling plastic begins with finding sources of waste. NONA works directly with a variety of organisations and industries who identify and preventatively source from maritime plastic waste streams. What previously was unfit for its original purpose, is transformed into a valuable resource for a useful, long-lasting clothes peg.

Sort

After collecting waste with the help of NGOs and the fishing industry, the gear is sorted by colour and type of plastic. NONA uses polypropylene maritime ropes to create our clothes pegs, while recovered nets, made from HDPE, are processed for other recycled plastic products.

Clean

If you can imagine, the fishing nets need a good clean to rid them of their odour.  So during the initial processing phase, they are shredded, washed, separated, and dried.

Pellet Formation

The dried rope shreds are then compounded and extruded through a melting process, where they are turned into small pellets.

Injection Moulding

Those small pellets are then used in injection moulding, which forms a strong, continuous shape, and gives us our recycled ocean plastic clothes peg!

From Sea to Clothesline:
A Success Story

We’re proud to do our part to intercept plastic headed to the sea, for incineration, or a landfill. By turning waste into useful products, we reduce the need for virgin polymer, recover plastic from the waste stream, engage in a circular economy, and support our invaluable oceans. All while producing a product that helps you reduce your carbon footprint.

And we’re not alone!

We’re thrilled to support organisations that are actively finding and implementing solutions to our invasive plastic problem.

A portion of each sale goes directly to eXXpedition, a not-for-profit research organisation studying and solving plastic pollution across the globe; and Ghost Fishing UK, a team that works with and encourages fisherman to actively report lost or discarded nets in the ocean for retrieval, redistribution, and recycling.

And of course, YOU.

Thanks for being part of the plastic pollution solution.
